THAI Airways will retrofit its Airbus A320ceo aircraft to feature reclining Business class seats.

The Bangkok-based carrier has reached an agreement with Airbus which will have Airbus Services supervise the installation of 12 business class seats on each of THAI's 20 A320neos. Each of the business class seats will have a recline of 12 inches.

According to Airbus, the cabin retrofit project is the first for the company on single-aisle aircraft from an airline in the Asia-Pacific. Upon completion, THAI's A320s – formerly operated by its subsidiary THAI Smile – will transition from a single-class to two-class configuration with 154 seats – 12 business and 144 economy.

Previously, THAI Smile operated the aircraft with 168-174 economy seats before the carrier was integrated into THAI.

“The acquisition of 20 A320 aircraft from THAI Smile Airways has benefited THAI’s route network, as well as strengthened fleet efficiency and enhanced our competitiveness in the market,” said Chai Eamsiri, THAI's Chief Executive Officer. “The fleet will serve THAI’s domestic and regional operations aiming to provide customers with seamless and convenient flight connectivity. In addition, the retrofit of reclining business seats in the aircraft will offer passengers more comfort while their travel experiences will be elevated and enhanced throughout their flight journey.”

“We are thrilled to embark on this cabin retrofit project with Thai Airways,” said Cristina Aguilar, Senior Vice President for Customer Services, Airbus. “This agreement underscores our commitment to enhancing passenger comfort and delivering exceptional travel experiences. We look forward to seeing these upgraded A320ceo aircraft take to the skies, offering passengers unparalleled comfort with the new reclining business class seats."

According to planespotters.net, THAI operates a fleet of 71 aircraft. Along with the A320ceos, the airline also operates widebody Airbus A330s and A350s. In addition, THAI also operates Boeing 777s and 787 Dreamliners.
