The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is opening up an investigation on Boeing following the aircraft manufacturer's own report of alleged misconduct by employees claiming the completion of inspections which were never done on 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

“The company voluntarily informed us in April that it may not have completed required inspections to confirm adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the fuselage on certain 787 Dreamliner airplanes,” the US FAA said in a statement.

According to the FAA, its investigation will focus the 787 development program and whether company employees may have falsified aircraft records.

The regulator noted that Boeing is currently conducting a comprehensive re-inspection of all 787 aircraft in the production system. Boeing is also required to develop a plan to address any issues with the in-service fleet.
