The Chicago-based airline announced the 787-9 with the redesigned experience will take its inaugural international flight – UA1 - from San Francisco to Singapore on April 22. Then, the aircraft will be used on the San Francisco-London Heathrow route on flight UA901 on April 30.
Ahead of the first international flight, United stated the aircraft will be flying on select domestic routes between San Francisco and Houston in preparation for its international services.
Unveiled last May, the new aircraft interior was redesigned from nose-to-tail. It will feature 99 premium seats – the most among US carriers on a single aircraft. The aircraft has 222 seats.
United plans to have at least 30 787-9s with the Elevated interior by the end of 2027.
New Polaris Studio Suites
Onboard, United introduces 8 new United Polaris Studio suites featuring what the airline states is its most spacious Business Class seats. Each suite has a fully-flat seat, an Ottoman with a seatbelt for companions in six of the eight seats, and a 27-inch 4K OLED seatback screen with Bluetooth connectivity – the largest of any US airline.
The 56 United Polaris fully-flat seats will allow travelers the option to face the window or center of the aircraft for individuals or joint travelers. With access to the United Polaris snack bar, the seats will also feature a 19-inch 4K OLED touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity.
35 United Premium Plus seats will feature added privacy dividers and a built-in reading light – the first for the cabin. Each seat has a 16-inch 4K OLED touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging.
In Economy Plus (39 seats) and Economy (84 seats), passengers will have a 13-inch 4K OLED seatback screen with Bluetooth connectivity. 6 power outlets are provided in each row.
