The operator of Kansai International Airport in Japan announced the start of renovation work at Terminal 2 – the budget carrier terminal at the main international gateway for the Osaka-area.

In anticipation of the future growth in air traffic, airport operator Kansai Airports reported the renovation of Kansai Airport's Terminal 2 is starting this month (August 2025) with work on the domestic area.

Scheduled for completion during Spring 2026, the Terminal 2 renovation will see the installation of 10 self bag drop units for self-service check-in, and three (3) 20 meter-long smart security lanes. The waiting and commercial areas will be renewed, and the boarding area will also be expanded by around 20%.

First opened in 2012, Kansai Airport Terminal 2 is Japan's first dedicated terminal for low-cost carriers (LCC). Serving both domestic and international flights, the domestic side of the terminal is used by flights operated by Peach Aviation.

The announcement of the renovation of Terminal 2 follows the completion of upgrade work at the main passenger terminal building (Terminal 1) earlier this year.
