Lion Air and Jeju Air aim to enhance travel options between Indonesia and South Korea with a new codeshare agreement between the two carriers.

During a recent signing ceremony in Jakarta, Indonesia, the strategic partnership agreement was signed by Lion Group President Director Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi and Jeju Air President Director Kim E-Bae.

Under the agreement, travelers will be able to make connections from Indonesia on Jeju Air-operated flights from Bali and Batam to Seoul-Incheon. Upon arrival at Incheon, travelers can make onward connections to 36 international destinations – including 8 to Japan and 11 in China.

Jeju Air will launch its route between Incheon and Bali with seven weekly flights from October 27. The South Korean budget carrier will use Boeing 737-8 (MAX 8) aircraft on the route. In addition, Jeju Air will also launch thrice-weekly flights from Incheon to Batam later this year.

Both carriers will also support government programs to boost tourism to Indonesia with the flights to Bali and Batam.

“This cooperation is an important step for Lion Group in providing convenience for Indonesian travelers to explore more international destinations. We understand that comfort and flexibility are very important for travelers, and with this multicity concept, we can provide a broader and efficient choice of routes,” said Adi.

“In addition, Lion Group and Jeju Air code share services are excited to introduce more foreign tourists to Indonesia. We believe that this partnership will not only strengthen bilateral relations between South Korea and Indonesia, but will also open new opportunities for tourism development in both countries. We are looking forward to the positive impact this collaboration will have on travelers and the tourism industry," Kim added.
