Air India to shift JFK Airport ops to new Terminal 6 in 2028

Air India will shift its operations at New York’s JFK International Airport (JFK) Terminal 4 to the new Terminal 6 (JFK T6) in 2028. A first flagship Maharaja Lounge will also opened at the new terminal.

Announced by JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), Air India will join one of 16 other international airlines that will operate out of JFK T6 around the beginning of 2028. It joins other Star Alliance carriers operating at JFK such as Air Canada, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, and TAP Air Portugal.

Customers will be able to make connections to other points across the Americas through its partners at JFK T6.

The new, flagship Maharaja Lounge at JFK T6 will have an area of around 9,100 square feet overlooking the concourse.

T6’s guest-centric design, operational efficiency and the proximity to fellow Star Alliance members will further elevate our customers’ experience and enable smoother, seamlessly connected journeys through JFK starting in 2028.”

JFK T6 will be opened in two phases starting with the opening first set of gates in 2026. The remaining gates are expected to be opened by 2028. T6 is part of the ongoing upgrade work at JFK International Airport, which will also feature the New Terminal One project.

At JFK, Air India operates daily flights from Terminal 4 to both Delhi and Mumbai. Operations at Terminal 4 will continue until the shift to T6 in 2028.

Other Asia/Pacific-based airlines that have committed to move to JFK T6 include ANA, Cathay Pacific, and Kuwait Airways.
