Japan Airlines (JAL) announced the reopening of its domestic lounges and dedicated security checkpoint at the North Wing of Tokyo Haneda International Airport Terminal 1 will take place on October 8. The lounges will feature materials sourced from retired aircraft and surplus materials.

Part of JAL’s progressive updates of its domestic services at the North Wing of Haneda Airport Terminal 1, the opening of the JAL First Class Lounge and the Sakura Lounge follows the debut of dedicated check-in counters on July 24. Previously used materials from retired aircraft and surplus materials from previous lounge renovations have been creatively repurposed into art pieces, furniture, and interior finishes. Marking the completion of the upgrade work at the North Wing, work will start for the upgrades and renovation at the South Wing.

“Through this renewal, facilities in the lounge have been transformed into dynamic spaces featuring designated dining, relaxation, work, and kids areas, allowing each traveler to spend their pre-flight time in a way that best matches their needs and mood at that moment.”

According to JAL, the seating capacity at the JAL First Class Lounge (former Diamond Premier Lounge) has been expanded by approximately 1.4 times compared to previous levels. It features premium massage chairs, enveloping sofa seating, and a combination of fully private booths, semi-private cubicles, and collaborative open desks. The JAL First Class Lounge will also feature rotating themed art exhibitions showcasing regions and cultures of Japan.

The Sakura Lounge features purpose-drive rooms for dining, work, children, and relaxation. Private nursing rooms will be available for families, while guests can reserve shower rooms using a mobile smart reservation system.

At the North Wing, the departure concourse features dedicated self-bag drop machines and next-generation smart security lanes which would allow passengers to keep laptops and compliant liquids in their carry-on bags.
