Japan Airlines (JAL) has advised customers domestic flights will start using the new North Satellite of Terminal 1 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (Haneda) when it opens on September 1.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has advised customers domestic flights will start using the new North Satellite of Terminal 1 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (Haneda) when it opens on September 1.
In an advisory on its website posted on August 3, JAL stated: “The new North Satellite facilities will open from September. This facility is built on the north side of Terminal 1 under the airport enhancement plan by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The domestic flights by JAL Group airlines departing from Haneda Airport will begin using the North Satellite facilities as planned.”
Connected to Terminal 1, the new North Satellite provides 6 more gates to the current terminal building that will provide direct boarding onto aircraft without the need for the use of a bus transfer. The nearest check-in counters are at counters E and F at the North Wing, which are used for passengers traveling to Northern Japanese regions of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokai, Hokuriku, and Kinki.
Major domestic destinations in the northern regions include Sapporo New Chitose (Hokkaido); Osaka Itami and Kobe (Kinki); and Nagoya Chubu (Tokai).
With an increased distance from the check-in counters E and F, JAL has advised customers to allow for extra time at security checkpoints and to arrive at the gate before the gate closure time.

“Customers boarding flights at the North Satellite are asked to allow extra time at the security checkpoints and to arrive at the boarding gate 10 minutes before your flight departure time.”
Construction was started for the North Satellite in May 2024, it will be the first major airport in Japan to feature a hybrid wood-steel structure designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and high resistance against earthquakes. The air conditioning system circulates temperature controlled air from below the floor instead of blowing from the ceiling.
