Shenzhen Airlines adds Sydney as second destination in Australia

Sydney Airport has announced Shenzhen Airlines will be the newest Mainland Chinese airline to launch flights to Sydney. Shenzhen Airlines plans to launch four-times weekly flights between Shenzhen and its second destination in Australia from December 14.

According to Sydney Airport, Shenzhen Airlines will use Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route which will add 130,000 seats per year and supporting an estimated 100,000 passengers a year.

“We’re pleased to welcome Shenzhen Airlines to Sydney Airport and support the launch of this important new service between Sydney and Shenzhen,” said Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton. “China remains one of Sydney Airport’s most important international markets, with Chinese nationals the airport’s second-largest international traveller group up 13.9 percent year-on-year.”

Shenzhen Airlines Chairman Li Shuxing said: “We are delighted to launch Shenzhen Airlines’ first service to Sydney, connecting one of China’s most dynamic and innovative cities with Australia’s leading international gateway. This new route will provide greater choice and convenience for travellers between Shenzhen and Sydney, while supporting stronger tourism, trade and cultural links between China and Australia.

According to Sydney Airport, Shenzhen is considered one of Sydney Airport’s fastest growing markets in Mainland China. It was the airport’s seventh-largest mainland China destination 2025 for passengers traveling directly between the two cities. Passenger numbers have grown 16% year-on-year to reach 56,000 per year.

Shenzhen Airlines will be Sydney Airport’s 10th China-based airline operating at the airport. Sydney will be the airline's second route to Australia where it launched its Shenzhen-Melbourne route in December 2025.
