Egypt Air plans Cairo-Singapore-Sydney route for 2027

EgyptAir has revealed plans to launch a new direct air link between Egypt and Australia in 2027. The Egyptian airline plans to operate flights between Cairo and Sydney via Singapore.

Announced at the El Alamein Air Show, the new service boosts air services between Northern Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Further details related to the exact launch date, flight schedules, aircraft type, and ticket sales will be announced later. Though EgyptAir’s Vice President Commercial Amr Adawy said the potential introduction of the new route would be supported by the airline’s Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

“We are pleased to be exploring new air connectivity between Cairo and both Singapore Changi Airport and Sydney Airport,” said Adawy. “These prospective services would strengthen EGYPTAIR’s presence in the Asia-Pacific market while providing passengers with convenient access to Egypt and seamless connections across our extensive network in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. As we continue to expand our network and modernize our fleet, the potential introduction of these services, supported by our state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900, would offer passengers greater choice, connectivity and an enhanced travel experience.”

According to Sydney Airport, the proposed service will serve its largest unserved market in Africa for Australian travelers.

“This is a major milestone for our international network, delivering greater choice for passengers and unlocking new opportunities for tourism, trade and cultural links between Australia, Egypt and the broader region,” said Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton. “Egypt is the largest unserved African market for Australian travellers, and a Sydney service by EgyptAir is a big step forward in improving connectivity between Australia and Egypt.”

In addition to providing direct air services between Egypt and Australia, the route will also add a new link between Singapore and North Africa and boost services between the island nation and Australia. Changi Airport Group (CAG) noted demand for travel to/from Egypt is robust and growing, and is the largest unserved market from Singapore.

Cairo will be the second city in Africa with a direct air link to Singapore. Ethiopian Airlines operates flights between Singapore and Addis Ababa.

Qantas currently operates flights from Sydney to Johannesburg, South Africa.
