Canada-based WestJet has announced a new codeshare partnership with Fiji Airways which will open up more connections between Canada and the South Pacific.

Under the agreement, Fiji Airways will place its FJ flight code on WestJet-operated flights within Canada to destinations including Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Halifax. In return, WestJet will place its WS flight code on Fiji Airways-operated flights on the Vancouver-Nadi route, and destinations in New Zealand including Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington.

The codeshare partnership announcement will be supported by the expansion of Fiji Airways’ operations at Vancouver this summer. From June 18, Fiji Airways will operate three weekly flights between Nadi and Vancouver. Fiji Airways will also introduce its Airbus A350 aircraft, adding more capacity and enhanced onboard amenities on all Vancouver flights starting September 8.

In a statement, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Paul Scurrah said: “Canada represents a growing and high-value market for Fiji and the wider Pacific. This partnership with WestJet makes it easier than ever for Canadian travellers to experience the warmth, culture and natural beauty of Fiji, while also supporting increased visitor flows into our region.”

“By deepening ties between WestJet’s North American network and Fiji Airways’ world-class service to the South Pacific, we are making it easier for our shared guests to reach the destinations that matter most to them,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “Whether they want to immerse themselves in a new culture, connect with loved ones or explore a path less travelled, together we are creating smoother journeys and more travel memories.”

According to WestJet, demand for access to Pacific destinations from Canada continues to grow. Passenger traffic between Canada and Fiji has increased by 19% year-on-year, with a significant portion connecting from Vancouver to Fiji Airways’ broader network including Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
