Etihad is setting up for its largest expansion in a single market – Mainland China – with the addition of 28 weekly flights on five routes.
Building upon its daily flights to Beijing Daxing, Etihad will launch five new routes to Mainland China starting in the fall – Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen. The first of the routes – Shanghai Pudong – will start with seven weekly flights from October 1. Services to the other four routes will begin in March 2027: seven-times weekly to Guangzhou and five weekly flights to Hangzhou from March 4; four weekly flights to Chengdu from March 5; and five weekly flights to Shenzhen from March 7.
Etihad will use its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 290 seats – 28 Business and 262 Economy - on all the new routes.
"This increase in capacity reflects the growing strategic importance of the UAE–China corridor, strengthening links across trade, tourism and investment, while positioning Abu Dhabi as a key gateway between China and markets across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America."
The new routes will be part of its joint venture with China Eastern Airlines, which provides coordinated services across key gateways between the UAE and three cities in China: Shanghai, Kunming, and Xi'an. Etihad also has a cargo joint venture with SF Airlines.
By the summer of 2027, Etihad will offer a total of 35 weekly flights to six destinations in Mainland China.
