Italy's flag carrier ITA Airways has officially become a member of Star Alliance from April 1, 2026.
Following its official entry into Star Alliance, ITA Airways' customers can now benefit from through check-in, reciprocal frequent flier recognition, and access to Star Alliance lounges across the global network. Eligible customers can enjoy priority services, while Star Alliance Gold customers will also have access to ITA Airways lounges in Rome, Milan, and Catania.
ITA Airways' induction into Star Alliance has been mentored by Lufthansa Group, and expert teams across the group airlines have facilitated “an intense program” over the last few months.
The airline is the 26thmember of Star Alliance. ITA Airways operates 350 daily flights carrying more than 16 million passengers from its main hubs at Rome Fiumicino Airport and Milan Linate Airport.
Combined, Star Alliance airlines operates more than 17,500 flights daily spanning 190 countries.
In Europe, Star Alliance is now represented by 10 airlines including ITA Airways – Aegean Airlines, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, and Turkish Airlines.
Previously a member of the SkyTeam alliance, Lufthansa Group acquired a 41% stake in ITA Airways in 2025. ITA Airways officially exited SkyTeam in April 2025.
