Air India unveils first retrofitted Airbus A320neo

Air India has welcomed its first retrofitted narrowbody Airbus A320neo aircraft back into operations.

The A320neo – registration VT-EXN – is the first of 27 narrowbody aircraft Air India inherited at the time of the takeover that was selected for a complete retrofit and rebanding.

Part of the airline's USD $400 million fleet retrofit program, the retrofitted A320neo features 8 Business, 24 extra legroom seats in Premium Economy, and 132 Economy seats. The seats feature portable electronic device (PED) holders and USB ports.

According to Air India, VT-EXN and the remaining 26 A320neos will be used on domestic and short-haul international flights along with 14 recently delivered A320neos.

Along with the A320neos, Air India will also retrofit more legacy aircraft – including 40 widebody Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft – with the first retrofitted 787 to be back in service next month.
