Air India has revealed its plans to roll out a new, in-house developed next-generation Inflight Entertainment (IFE) system which will enable connections with the airline’s other digital platforms, and the ability to find and book experiences at their destination.

Developed by Air India’s design and software teams, the Vista Digital Platform will be rolled out progressively within its fleet starting with select new aircraft deliveries from FY2028. According to the airline, the system will serve as an extension of its digital ecosystem and feature some patent pending innovations. With the new IFE system, the airline aims to deliver a more personalized and connected passenger experience through greater consistency across inflight entertainment hardware types on aircraft.

“By harnessing advances in modern software architecture, artificial intelligence and inflight connectivity, the platform will enable Air India to introduce new features, services and content faster and more efficiently at a lower cost while delivering a seamless experience.”

Among the features on the Vista Digital Platform include support for over-the-air software and content updates. Through integration with Air India’s digital platforms including the website and mobile app, passengers can access frequent flier services, travel information, and select booking-related features along with curating their own entertainment options. Passengers can resume movies or a program from the same point on their next Air India flight, and discover and book destination-related experiences and travel services.

In the airline’s statement, Air India’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer Dr. Satya Ramaswamy said: “The adoption of open-source operating systems by in-flight entertainment hardware vendors, the deployment of satellite broadband connectivity on aircraft and modern AI technologies create a unique ‘app store launch moment’ for reimagining the airline cabin experience. We are one of the few pioneering airlines of the world to create a connected software platform in-house that powers personalized entertainment and commerce experiences for guests. With this advancement, the inflight entertainment system has the potential to become the most important screen our guests interact with, joining Air India's award-winning mobile app and website as one of our core digital consumer platforms. While deployment will commence progressively from the second half of 2027, we are excited to share an early preview of the platform."

The new Vista Digital Platform is part of Air India’s broader vision of building technology platforms that shape the future of the passenger experience. The platform is expected to serve as a foundation for new products, services, and experiences across the airline’s ecosystem as digital, connectivity, and artificial intelligence technologies continue to improve.
