American Airlines moves up launch of Chicago-Tokyo Narita to March 19, 2027

On American’s website, the outbound flight AA153 will depart Chicago O’Hare at 1245H before arriving the following day at Narita at 1530H. The return flight AA154 will depart at 1750H and arrive back at O’Hare at 1510H.


Tokyo will be American Airlines’ 11th long-haul route from Chicago. Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 30 Flagship Business and 21 Premium Economy seats will be used on the Chicago-Narita route.


According to American, the route will be timed for convenient onward connections via Narita operated by fellow oneworld member airline and trans-Pacific Joint Venture partner Japan Airlines (JAL) to popular destinations in Asia such as Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, and Ho Chi Minh City.


Three airlines currently operate flights between the two cities. United Airlines, Japan Airlines (JAL), and All Nippon Airways (ANA) operate daily flights each from O’Hare to Tokyo Haneda. JAL and ANA also operates daily flights from O’Hare to Narita. United Airlines will add to its services between Chicago and Tokyo with the launch its own daily flights to Narita on October 24.


Along with the Chicago-Tokyo Narita route launch, American announced the addition of new destinations including Porto, Portugal; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Vienna, Austria, to be operated from its hub at Philadelphia. The airline will increase its flights from New York JFK to London Heathrow, while adding new routes to Amsterdam and Nice, France. A new route to Barcelona from Charlotte will also be added.
