IndiGo and Akasa Air announce initial routes from soon-to-open Noida International Airport

Indian budget carrier IndiGo and Akasa Air have announced plans to launch flights to Delhi’s new airport - the Noida International Airport (NIA) – upon its opening on June 15.


In a statement, IndiGo reported it will gradually launch flights from NIA to more than 16 destinations across India from NIA’s opening on June 15. The destinations include the following: Amristar, Bareilly, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradrun, Dharamhala, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Lucknow, Navi Mumbai, Pantnagar, and Srinagar.


On June 15, IndiGo will operate two, special inaugural flights 6E2278/6E2279 to/from Lucknow and Bengaluru. Departing from Lucknow in the morning, 6E2278 will continue on from Noida to Bengaluru. The return flight 6E2279 will depart in the mid-afternoon, arrive at Noida around dusk before departing for Lucknow in the evening.


Indigo will operate flights from Hyderabad and Amristar the same day, before adding flights to Jammu the following day (June 16).


More flights to the following cities will be added from July 1: Navi Mumbai, Srinagar, Jodhpur, Dharamshala, Bhopal, Dehradun, Bareilly, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Pantnagar, and Chandigarh.


Separately, Akasa Air announced that it will launch flights to the NIA from Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai starting June 16. One daily flight each will be operated on the two routes.


According to Akasa Air, the NIA is aligned with its long-term network and growth strategy. It will continue to progressively strengthen its network from NIA, expanding domestic and international connectivity over time. The airline will also operate a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility within the airport premises.


The NIA also stated that Air India Express will also operate flights to/from the NIA. More details on flight schedule, destination, and passenger services will be released later.


Located around 60km southeast from Delhi in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, the soon-to-open Noida International Airport is expected to be a second air hub for the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). It is India’s largest greenfield project that was built, and will be operated by the Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.


The airport currently features one runway and a passenger terminal with a capacity to serve 12 million passengers a year. Further development over YIAPL’s concession period can increase the capacity of the Noida International Airport to over 70 million passengers per year.
