Japanese budget carrier Peach Aviation (Peach) announced it will introduce a new program to reimburse accommodation and transportation costs for customers due to Peach flight delays and cancellations.

The Osaka, Japan-based All Nippon Airways (ANA) subsidiary announced that the compensation program will cover costs due to customers’ flight disruptions that are attributable to Peach starting August 19. These disruptions covered will include major delays or cancellations decided within 24 hours before the scheduled departure time, and factors before departure directly attributable to Peach such as aircraft maintenance or system failures under the company’s control.

“Peach has been committed to company-wide efforts to improve operational quality, including enhancing on-time performance. At the same time, when sudden major delays or flight cancellations

attributable to Peach occur, they may cause inconvenience and additional expenses for our customers. Believing that our customers should enjoy the same peace of mind even in such unforeseen circumstances, in addition to our ongoing efforts to enhance operational quality, we have decided to introduce this new program.”

Customers with reservations for eligible flights will get an email through their registered address to advise them on the compensation procedure on a dedicated webpage on Peach’s website. With the presentation of receipts for accommodation and transportation costs incurred through a flight disruption, eligible customers can get compensation up to JPY 10,000 (~USD $64) for domestic flights, and JPY 20,000 (~USD $128) for international flights.

Eligible expenses include taxi fares and similar transportation expenses when arriving at the destination after scheduled public transportation stops operating in the evening for domestic flights, accomodation expenses required due to rebooking on a flight departing the following day, round-trip airport-accomodation transportation expenses, and the fare difference when transferring to another airline or the Shinkansen (high-speed rail). Hotel expenses incurred as a result of a late evening arrival on a rebooked flight after local scheduled ground transportation options have ceased operating are also covered.

Not covered are flight disruptions caused by factors outside Peach’s control such as severe weather, natural disasters, or air traffic control instructions. Flight schedule changes or cancellations decided more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure time are also not covered in this program.

According to Peach, reimbursement will be completed within three weeks after the submission of the application. Japan residents will receive an email advising on options for reimbursement. Non-Japan residents will get the payments through bank transfer to the designated account.
