Qantas will be increasing its flights from Melbourne to Tokyo during the upcoming winter season (Northern Winter/Southern Summer 2026/2027).

In response to growing demand, Qantas will increase its flights on the Melbourne-Tokyo Narita route from daily to 11-times weekly from December through March 2027.

According to the Australian airline, the additional flights will add a total of 30,000 seats on the route. 350,000 passengers were served on the route from October 2025 and March 2026, representing an 8% increase during the same period.

"Japan remains one of the most popular destinations on our international network and is showing no signs of slowing down, with more than half a million Australians visiting between January and May this year alone.”

"Adding more capacity out of Melbourne means more Aussies can experience one of the world's great travel destinations, whether they're heading there for the first time or going back for more.”

Separately, Qantas will increase its flights between Australia and New Zealand during the same period. Over 15,000 additional seats will be offered to Queenstown from three cities in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Another Auckland-Sydney flight will be added which will provide a 10% increase on the route with larger aircraft and more flights.

Qantas currently operates four daily flights to the two Tokyo area hubs, including two-daily flights between Sydney and Haneda and one each daily to Narita from Brisbane and Melbourne.
