Vietnam Airlines has secured financial assistance worth up to USD $2.9 billion to fund its purchase of 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The national airline of Vietnam received a preliminary commitment from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) for the guaranteed loan to support delivery financing for the narrowbody jets. It covers the order by Vietnam Airlines for 50 737 MAX 8s signed in February 2026, which will be delivered between 2030 and 2032.
According to Vietnam Airlines, the preliminary commitment marks a significant milestone for the airline’s fleet investment and financing strategy. It provides a foundation for the airline to advance financing arrangements with international lenders and supports the long-term implementation of its fleet modernization and growth plans.
To date, Vietnam Airlines is the first and only Vietnam-based airline to receive EXIM export credit support for the acquisition. Previous investments were made for Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
