Boeing has announced that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed its largest aircraft order with the American aircraft manufacturer. The national airline of Bangladesh will take on a total of 14 Boeing jets including the 787 Dreamliner and its first order for the 737 MAX.

According to Boeing, Biman Bangladesh’s new aircraft order consists of 8 787-10s, 2 787-9s, and 4 737-8s (737 MAX 8).

Already operating the 787-8 and 787-9, Biman will take on the largest variant of the 787 Dreamliner family and operate all variants of the widebody aircraft. The 787-10 will be used to serve high-demand flights to the Middle East, and provide a bigger passenger and cargo capacity.

According to planespotters.net, Biman operates 6 787s – 4 787-8s and 2 787-9s. Among the routes the airline operates with the Dreamliner is its longest from Dhaka to Toronto via Istanbul using the 787-9.

Currently operating 4 older 737-800s, the airline’s order for the 737-8 – the first by Biman for the MAX – will support its single-aisle fleet renewal and meet growing regional demand.

"We are proud to build on our partnership with Biman with this order and support their strategy to modernize their fleet, expand their network and enhance the passenger experience," said Paul Righi, Boeing vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Eurasia, India and South Asia. "The 787-10 delivers unmatched efficiency and seamless commonality with Biman's existing 787s, while the 737-8 is the ideal bridge from their 737 fleet with its versatility, fuel savings and crew commonality."

From its hub at Dhaka, Biman Bangladesh network includes 22 international destinations in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe. The airline’s current fleet of 19 aircraft includes widebody and narrowbody Boeing jets such as the 737-800, 777-300ER, and the 787-8/-9.
