German aviation technology company Lufthansa Technik is expanding its presence in the Philippines with a new maintenance facility at the Clark International Airport just north of Manila.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines – the company’s Philippine-based joint venture with MacroAsia Corporation – announced its plan to build the new 157,000sqm Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) support facility at Clark Airport during a state visit by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier hosted by the Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in Manila.
According to Lufthansa Technik, the MRO facility is scheduled to start operations in 2028. It will have a capacity to offer up to nine widebody aircraft bays, and create around 1,200 high-skilled jobs.
The new facility at Clark Airport will complement Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ 226,000sqm facility at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) which supports MRO work on widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A330, A340, A350, and A380 along with the Boeing 777. The Clark facility will add the capability to accommodate Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
“Asia-Pacific is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world, and the Philippines are central to our strategy in this region,” said Lufthansa Technik CEO Soeren Stark. “With the investment in the new site in Clark, we are taking the next decisive step in our growth strategy and positioning Lufthansa Technik for the future of aviation – well beyond the borders of this region.”
During a visit to company’s facility at NAIA, Lufthansa Technik Philippines CEO Holger Beck said: “With the new base maintenance location in Clark, we are making a significant investment in the Philippines and substantially expanding Lufthansa Technik’s network in the country and across the Asia-Pacific region. Our sites in Manila and Clark will complement each other as two strong pillars of our growth, and together they mark an exciting new chapter for Lufthansa Technik Philippines.”
The lease agreement for the facility at Clark was signed by the Philippines’ Bases Conversion and Development Authority, airport operator Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corporation, and Lufthansa Technik Philippines.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines currently has over 3000 employees. It is certified as a qualified provider for aircraft MRO by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the European EASA. The technical services group is certified as a Design Department under Lufthansa Technik AG's Design Organization Approval (EASA.21J.019).
