Skymark Airlines recently welcomed its first Boeing 737 MAX, becoming the first Japanese operator of the latest line of the 737 family of aircraft.
After receiving the 737-8 (737 MAX 8) – registered JA738A – at Boeing’s facility at Everett, Washington on April 30, the aircraft arrived at Tokyo Haneda Airport on May 4 after making stops at Kona, Hawaii and Guam.
According to Skymark, the aircraft – featuring 177 seats - is scheduled to enter service as soon as preparations are complete.
The newly delivered 737-8 is the first of up to 20 on order and lease for Skymark. This includes 13 737-8s and 7 737-10s (737 MAX 10). Deliveries for the bigger 737-10s are scheduled to start in 2027.
Skymark’s new 737-8 adds to its all-737 fleet. The airline operates 29 older 737-800s.
According to Boeing’s orders and deliveries page, the American aircraft manufacturer has received around 73 orders from four companies based in Japan. These orders include Japan Airlines’ (JAL) commitment for 38 737-8s. All Nippon Airways (ANA) has 20 MAX on order with options for 10 more.
