Sun Phu Quoc Airways takes delivery of first A321LR

Vietnam’s Sun Phu Quoc Airways recently took delivery of its first Airbus A321LR. With the delivery, the airline has also become the first operator of the long-range variant of the narrowbody A321 in the country.

According to planespotters.net, the newly delivered A321LR is registered VN-A925. While it was originally delivered to Malaysia-based AirAsia’s long-haul arm AirAsia X (9M-XVD) in July 2026, the aircraft never entered service. After being stored in Kuala Lumpur, it was then delivered to Sun Phu Quoc Airways arriving at Hanoi on September 3. The aircraft spotting website reports that the newly delivered aircraft has since entered service.

Sun Phu Quoc Airways’ A321LR features 236 all-Economy seats. With a range of up to 7,400 kilometers (4,000 nautical miles). The airline stated it intends to us the aircraft to launch new routes to Japan, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia.

With a fleet of around 19 aircraft, the new A321LR is now one of 15 A321s in service with Sun Phu Quoc Airways, comprising of 2 older A321s and a majority 13 A321neos including the newly delivered A321LR.

To support its growth plans, the Phu Quoc, Vietnam-based airline is expecting to take delivery of around 6 A320/A320neo and 8 former American Airlines A330-200s. The airline also placed an order for up to 40 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in February 2026.

Since the launch of its operations in November 2025. Sun Phu Quoc Airways’s network includes domestic destinations in Vietnam along with regional cities such as Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, and Singapore.
