Airbus to set up an A220 Full-Flight Simulator in Singapore

Airbus announced its Airbus Asia Training Center (AATC) in Singapore will get an A220 Full-Flight Simulator (FFS) by 4Q 2027.

Announced during the Asia Pacific Aviation Training Summit (APATS) 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, Airbus’ installation of the A220 simulator in Singapore will support the region’s growing demand for pilot and maintenance training for the single-aisle aircraft. The deployment of the A220 Training Services will be carried out in partnership with Flight Training Alliance (FTA).

FTA is a joint venture between CAE and Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT), and is Airbus’ A220 Authorized Training Provider. Under the agreement, FTA will deploy the FFS while AATC will manage operations and training delivery. AATC and FTA will deliver a complete suite of A220 flight crew type-rating and recurring training. A dedicated team of certified A220 flight instructors and operations technicians will also be based at the Singapore facility.

“Establishing A220 training capabilities in the region is a strategic enabler for Airbus’s growth footprint in Asia Pacific,” said Silvia Meloni, General Manager of Airbus Asia Training Centre. “The new A220 simulator will provide airline operators across the region with convenient access to world-class training, helping train their pilots closer to home while supporting the safe and efficient entry into service of their A220 fleet.”

“We also anticipate an increase in training demand for the A220 as the aircraft programme continues to gain momentum in this region,” added Silvia.

As of the end of July 2026, Airbus reported over 1,100 orders for ther A220 with 532 delivered to over 25 operators around the world.

Among the operators of the A220 in the Asia-Pacific include Korean Air and Qantas. Malaysia-based AirAsia announced an order for 150 A220-300s with options for up to 150 more in May 2026. AirAsia’s order is the largest single order for the A220.

Located at the Selatar Aerospace Park in Singapore, AATC features 10 FFS bays for in-production Airbus aircraft. 4 of which are for the A350, 2 for the A320, 2 A330 and 1 for the A380. Another FFS is for the ATR 72-600, part of a joint venture between Airbus and Italy’s Leonardo. Type rating and recurrent training courses are offered for the Airbus aircraft types at the facility.
