The operator of the Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has released more photos and details about the new North Satellite of Terminal 1 which will open on September 1.
The operator of the Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has released more photos and details about the new North Satellite of Terminal 1 which will open on September 1.
Ahead of the opening of the Terminal 1 North Satellite, Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd (JAT). Opened the facility to members of the media. New photos have been released of the hybrid steel and wood structure connected to Terminal 1 that will provide six additional boarding gates.
According to the JAT, the construction of the 3-storey, 11,000m² building (total floor area approximately 21,000m²) used approximately 1,800m³ of timber or the equivalent of 10,000 trees. The timber will be featured throughout the facility including at the boarding gate lounge, the connecting passages, and fixed bridges. Approximately 530,000kWh of solar power can be produced to cover 80% of the needed energy consumption of the new facility. 10 moving walkways (round-trip) are installed to support movement within the terminal.

Haneda Terminal 1 is the home of domestic flight operations of airlines such as Japan Airlines (JAL) and Skymark Airlines. At the North Wing, JAL customers can board flights to the Northern Japanese regions of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokai, Hokuriku, and Kinki. Major domestic destinations in the northern regions include Sapporo New Chitose (Hokkaido); Osaka Itami and Kobe (Kinki); and Nagoya Chubu (Tokai).
Upon the opening of the satellite facility, JAL has advised passengers to allow for extra time ahead of their departure time from the new satellite terminal to clear the security checkpoints and reach the boarding gate.
The opening of the North Satellite is the first major facility expansion of Terminal 1 since its opening in 1993. Construction of the expanded facilities started in May 2024.
