Saudia and Garuda Indonesia are strengthening their partnership with the recent signing of a Joint Business Framework Agreement which aims to expand their networks through a joint venture between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, and to Australia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa next year.

The newly signed agreement builds on the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) announced in July 2026. Both airlines will now begin the regulatory approval process and proceed with the development of the remaining required agreements ahead of the planned launch of the joint venture in 2027.

“The signing of this agreement marks an important step forward in our partnership with Garuda Indonesia,” said H.E. Engr. Ibhramin Al-Omar, Director General, Saudia Group. “By bringing together the strength and reach of our networks, we are creating broader opportunities for travel across more than 120 destinations spanning Indonesia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.”

Along with enhancing the travel experience through closer frequent flier program cooperation, the partnership places an importance on Hajj and Umrah travel from Indonesia.

“This agreement marks an important step in the continued development of our partnership with Saudia. Garuda Indonesia’s extensive domestic & Australia network provides a strong platform to connect more of Indonesia with key international markets, while Saudia’s global reach opens broader access across Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa,” added Glenny Kairupan, President Director & CEO, Garuda Indonesia. “We see this partnership not only as going beyond connectivity but it is also about combining the strengths of our respective networks and commercial capabilities to offer customers greater choice, better access and a more seamless travel experience.”

Both Garuda Indonesia and Saudia are members of the SkyTeam airline alliance. As both airlines move towards a joint venture, Kairupan further stated the two airlines will have closer alignment across network planning, commercial activities, and customer touchpoints such as terminal co-location.
