Thailand launches program to check-in 10kg of fruit on domestic flights without charge

Passengers flying on domestic flights within Thailand on seven local airlines will be able to check-in one 10kg box of fresh fruit without charge starting this month (September 2026).

The new program follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Thailand Commerce Ministry’s Department of Internal Trade, Transport Ministry’s Department of Airports, and seven Thai airlines including THAI Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, Thai Vietjet, and EZY Airlines. Intended to help Thai farmers move seasonal produce, encourage consumption of Thai fruit products, and support domestic tourism, the year-long program started on September 1 and will run until August 31, 2027.

Passengers flying on any one of the seven airlines on domestic flights to 20 Thai airports will be able to check-in up to 10kg of fruit that fits within a standard box provided by the Department of Internal Trade at the participating airports. The fruits must be fresh, dry, and free of moisture. It also must be securely sealed with adhesive tape or straps to prevent insects or foreign objects from entering, and to prevent orders and liquids to leak. Most fruits except Durian and other strongly scented fruit are not permitted to be included in the box.

The 20 participating airports include Nan, Lampang, Tak, Phitsanulok, Loei, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Roi Et, Ubon Ratchathani, Buri Ram, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Trang and Narathiwat.
