Air Cambodia signed commitment to purchase 20 COMAC C909s

Air Cambodia has signed an agreement with COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) for the purchase of 20 China-made C909 (formerly the ARJ-21), its first bulk order for Chinese-made regional jets outside of the country.

The new purchase agreement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between COMAC and Air Cambodia for the 20 C909s in September 2025. It will comprise of 10 firm orders and 10 options. According to a report from the Khmer Times, the first batch of the aircraft order is scheduled to be delivered to Air Cambodia and enter service during the second half of this year.

As the aircraft order was announced, Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COMAC to support the operation of the C909 aircraft and deepen cooperation in areas including civil aviation infrastructure, operational support, personnel development, and aircraft maintenance training.

Formerly known as the ARJ-21, the C909 made its first commercial flight in 2016. The aircraft has since carried more than 37 million passengers. With a range of up to 3700 kilometers, the C909 is designed for operations at airports with short and narrow runways. It also offers great performance in high-temperature, high-altitude, and crosswind conditions.

Cambodia will be the fourth country outside of China which sees the use of C909. The aircraft are currently operated by Indonesia's TransNusa, Vietnam's Vietjet (leased from Chengdu Airlines),  and Lao Airlines. 

According to planespotters.net, Air Cambodia (formerly Cambodia Angkor Air) has a fleet of 6 aircraft including 3 ATR-72 turboprop aircraft and 3 narrowbody Airbus A320/A321s.
